Mercury Cable & Energy and Jordana Electric to Market HVCRC Smart Conductors in Mexico

Jodana Electric to represent Mercury Cable & Energy’s high voltage composite reinforced conductor product line in Mexico, and will complete certification of the product line with Laboratorio de Pruebas de Equipos y Materiales.

Mercury Cable & Energy (MC&E), the leading developer of High Voltage Composite Reinforced Conductors (HVCRC) for electrical transmission lines, is pleased to announce that its operating subsidiary has engaged Jordana Electric, Inc. (Jordana Electric) to represent it’s HVCRC Smart Conductor product line in Mexico. As part of its representation obligations under this agreement, Jordana Electric has committed to completing certification of MC&E’s HVCRC product line with Laboratorio de Pruebas de Equipos y Materiales (LAPEM) within 12 months and Jordana Electric has guaranteed specified minimum orders in exchange for its exclusive representation rights to be granted by MC&E.

“We are very excited to be providing MC&E’s superior smart grid products to Mexico and have experienced an extraordinarily high level of interest from Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) in rapidly deploying HVCRC products into their utility grid,” stated Arlen Barksdale, Ph.D., CEO of Jordana Electric. “We are anticipating a pervasive and extensive penetration of MC&E’s Smart Conductors in the refurbishment and expansion of Mexico’s grid infrastructure.”

Jordana approached MC&E after extensive analysis of the composite conductor marketplace and in consultation with CFE. Previously, Jordana had represented Composite Technology Corporation and as their representative, delivered to Composite Technology, initial orders from CFE and certification from LAPEM.

“We are pleased with the engagement of Jordana Electric and the initiation of certification by LAPEM in Mexico, which now expands our international market presence and complements our ongoing market in China,” stated Todd Harris, President of MC&E. “Jordana Electric has a proven track record in supporting CFE’s mandate towards upgrading and extending Mexico’s electric power transmission needs utilizing advanced technology such as HVCRC products.”

Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) is the national electric generation, transmission and distribution utility serving all of Mexico. CFE operates as a decentralized public entity of the Federal Government of Mexico via thirteen Distribution Regional Branches, Nine Transmission Regional Branches, and five CPTT Regional Branches.

Jordana Electric, Inc (JEI), based in Calexico California, is an established international manufacturer’s representative with a broad spectrum product line providing cable, insulators, poles and substation components to the utility transmission and distribution industry and alternative energy components for the solar, wind and bio-fuel industries.

Mercury Cable & Energy is a privately‐held developer of High Voltage Composite Reinforced Conductors (HVCRC), Smart Conductors for the Smart Grid. The patented HVCRC Smart Conductor is superior to existing conductors in a number of key performance areas including:

  • Up to double the current carrying capacity of ACSR
  • Substantially reduces High Temperature Sag
  • Requires fewer structures for new line construction
  • Increases capacity of existing rights of way and structures through retrofitting
  • Eliminates bi‐metallic corrosion
  • Significantly reduces line losses compared to same diameter conventional and composite conductors at equal operating temperatures
